Call Carl ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect through the Call Carl iOS app, how we use it, and what choices you have.
The short version: We collect information about your home and your use of the app so Carl can give you personalized, useful guidance. We don't sell your data. We don't use it for advertising. You can request deletion of your account and data at any time.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account information: Email address, and optionally a phone number
- Home details: Your home address and property information (retrieved via the Realie API to personalize your maintenance schedule)
- Asset information: Details about your appliances, systems, and structural components — including photos, model numbers, purchase dates, and repair records — that you enter or upload
- Provider information: Names and contact details for contractors and service providers you track in the app. When you choose to import a service provider from your device's Contacts, we receive only the contact you select. We do not access your full address book.
- Chat history: Conversations you have with Carl, including questions, descriptions of problems, and documents or quotes you share
- Household member emails: If you invite others to share your home in the app
- Subscription status: If you choose to support Carl with a tip-jar subscription, we store your subscription status to grant supporter benefits. Payment is processed by Apple — we never see your payment method.
Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data: Which features you use, tasks you complete or dismiss, and general interaction patterns
- Push notification tokens: Used to deliver maintenance reminders and app notifications to your device
- Device information: App version and iOS version, for troubleshooting and compatibility
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Build and maintain your personalized maintenance schedule
- Power Carl's AI responses — diagnosing issues, reviewing quotes, and answering questions about your home
- Track your asset history, provider contacts, and maintenance records
- Send push notifications for upcoming or overdue maintenance tasks
- Invite household members you choose to share your home
- Improve the app — understanding how people use Carl helps us make it better
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it to anyone.
3. Who We Share Your Information With
We do not sell your data. We do not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes. We only share with service providers that are necessary to operate the app.
Service Providers
- Supabase: Secure database and file storage for your home data, assets, photos, and chat history
- Anthropic: The AI provider that powers Carl's responses. Your chat messages are processed by Anthropic's API to generate answers. Anthropic does not use Call Carl's API data to train their models under their commercial terms. See Anthropic's privacy policy for details on how they handle API data.
- Realie: Property data API used to look up information about your home address during onboarding. Your address is shared with Realie to look up information about your home address during onboarding.
- Apple: Push notification delivery via Apple Push Notification service (APNs)
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law or court order, or if necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Call Carl or others.
4. Data Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your data, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Encrypted storage via Supabase
- Access controls that limit who can view your data
No system is perfectly secure. If you have concerns about your account, contact us at support@call-carl.com.
5. Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will purge your personal data within 30 days. We may retain anonymized, aggregated data (with no connection to your identity) for product improvement purposes.
6. Your Privacy Rights
Access & Correction
You can view and edit most of your home data directly in the app. To request a full export of your data, email support@call-carl.com.
Deletion
You can delete your account from within the app. Your data will be permanently removed within 30 days. You can also email support@call-carl.com to request deletion.
Data Portability
You can request an export of your data in a portable format by emailing support@call-carl.com. We will respond within 30 days.
7. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how we use it
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your information)
- Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

8. AI Disclaimer
Carl's responses are informational only and are not a substitute for advice from a licensed contractor, engineer, or other professional. Always use your own judgment and consult a qualified professional for significant home repairs or safety concerns.
9. Children's Privacy
Call Carl is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at support@call-carl.com and we will delete the information promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we'll update the "Last Updated" date above. For material changes, we'll notify you via email or an in-app notification.
